Townsville artist, Marion O’Shea has been painting since childhood when she sold hand-painted postcards on Magnetic Island to the many tourists who visited from southern cities. She always knew that she would begin painting seriously when she retired.

Marion held her first exhibition in 2001 and was an instant success. In 2002 she won the MIM Miniature Award at the Annual Townsville Art Society Awards at the Perc Tucker Gallery. The following year , 2003, she won best Art Work. Marion is a prolific artist and since 2001 has painted over 300 paintings of which over 260 have been sold. Most buyers have more than one of Marion’s paintings and her art is now in private collections in England, Ireland, America,Canada, Czechoslavakia, Italy, Germany,New Zealand, Switzerland, India, Singapore and Africa., as well as all Australian States.

Marion has her own private Gallery in Townsville and teaches water colour techniques. She paints in watercolour and oil and draws in pen and wash and charcoal. In the past two years she has completed 15 commissions for Townsville, Melbourne and Brisbane clients.

Marion is president of the Townsville Art Society Inc., and coordinated the 2005 Awards at Perc Tucker Gallery Judged by the Director of the National Gallery of Australia, Mr. Ron Radford. She coordinated the 2006 Art Awards in August judged by Margaret Olley, CA. She was awarded the 2006 Arts and Cultural Award, for Visual Arts, by the Townsville City Council in recognition of her services to the arts and cultural life of Townsville.

In October 2006 she established the Townsville Art Society's Classroom and gave free lessons to Seniors for 12 weeks before beginning permanent classes for senior citizens.

 



Flowers are among her favourite subjects and one of her most popular sellers.She attempts to have an annual Flowers for Mother's Day Exhibition each year.
